78:1 An exhortation both to learn and to preach, the law of God; 78:9 The story of God's wrath against the incredulous and disobedient; 78:67 The Israelites being rejected, God chose Judah, Zion, and David.
Asaph, to give instruction. Psa_74:1 *title This Psalm was probably written, as Calmet and others suppose, by Asaph in the days of Asa, who had gained, by the aid of the Syrians, a great victory over the Israelites, and brought back to the pure worship of God many out of the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon. 2Chr. 15:1-16:14

To this purpose the Arabic, "He remembered that they were flesh; and a spirit which when it departs, returneth not again." The human being is composed of flesh and spirit, or body and soul: these are easily separated, and when separated, the body turns to dust, and the spirit returns no more to animate the body in a state of probation. 78:67 The Israelites being rejected, God chose Judah, Zion, and David.
2Chr. 15:1-16:14 Verse 1Psalm 49:1-3, 51:4; Judges 5:3; Proverbs 8:4-6; Isaiah 51:4, 55:3; Matthew 13:9Reciprocal1 Chronicles 6:39 - Asaph; 25:2 - Asaph; 2 Chronicles 35:15 - according; Psalm 19:7 - law; Proverbs 4:20 - General; Isaiah 46:9 - the former; Matthew 5:2 - General; Acts 13:16 - give Verse 2I willPsalm 49:4; Matthew 13:13, 13:34, 13:35 dark sayingsProverbs 1:6; Matthew 13:11-13; Mark 4:34ReciprocalGenesis 18:19 - command; Numbers 23:7 - he took; Deuteronomy 29:29 - revealed; 2 Chronicles 9:1 - questions; Job 20:3 - the spirit; 27:1 - Job; 33:2 - I; Proverbs 15:7 - lips; 18:4 - the wellspring; Ezekiel 24:3 - utter; Matthew 5:2 - General; Mark 4:2 - by parables; 4:22 - General; John 16:25 - proverbs; Acts 13:16 - give; Romans 16:25 - which; 1 Corinthians 2:7 - even; 14:2 - howbeit Verse 3Psalm 44:1, 48:8; Exodus 12:26, 12:27, 13:8, 13:14, 13:15ReciprocalDeuteronomy 4:9 - teach them; 32:7 - ask; Joshua 4:6 - when your; Judges 6:13 - our fathers; 1 Chronicles 16:8 - make; 17:20 - according; Job 8:8 - inquire; 13:1 - ear; 15:18 - from their; Psalm 19:2 - Day unto; 78:5 - that they; 145:4 - generation; Proverbs 22:6 - a child; Isaiah 38:19 - the father; 48:6 - and will; Joel 1:3 - General; Luke 8:38 - saying; Colossians 4:6 - your Verse 4We willPsalm 145:4-6; Deuteronomy 4:9, 6:7; Joel 1:3 showingPsalm 71:18; Deuteronomy 11:19; Joshua 4:6, 4:7, 4:21-24 praisesPsalm 9:14, 10:1-5, 145:5, 145:6; Isaiah 63:7-19ReciprocalExodus 18:1 - heard; Deuteronomy 6:2 - and thy son; 31:13 - General; 32:7 - ask; Judges 6:13 - our fathers; 1 Chronicles 17:20 - according; Job 8:8 - inquire; 13:1 - ear; Psalm 48:13 - that ye; 78:5 - that they; 102:18 - This; 105:2 - talk ye; 107:8 - his wonderful; 111:4 - He hath; 119:9 - by taking; 119:27 - so shall I talk; 119:172 - tongue; Isaiah 25:1 - thou hast; Mark 10:14 - Suffer; Luke 22:19 - this do; John 15:16 - that your; Acts 2:11 - wonderful; Romans 3:2 - because; Ephesians 4:29 - that which; 6:4 - but; Colossians 4:6 - your Verse 5For hePsalm 81:5, 119:152, 147:19; Deuteronomy 4:45, 6:7, 11:19; Isaiah 8:20; Romans 3:2; 1 John 5:9-12 testimonyThe word testimony is used for the ark, and for the law, written on tables of stone, put within the ark, and covered with the mercy seat. but it probably refers to the conduct and defeat of the ten tribes of which Ephraim was the head. Nothing is recorded in the history of Israel concerning the cowardice of the Ephraimites, as distinct from that of the other tribes: some therefore think, "that the children of Ephraim" is put by a figure of speech for the nation in general.
