IS THERE ONE GOD OR THREE?

People, including Christians often have difficulty with this question. It is a challenge to relate Jesus to God the Father, and many do not recognize the power of the Holy Spirit. The answer to the question is -- there is only one God, but He manifests Himself as three persons. The question has been asked: “If we have God, why do we need Christ?”  “What does this thing called the Holy Spirit do, and where is it?”.

The Trinity is one God who exists simultaneously in three persons. Each is co-equal, co-powerful, and co-eternal with the other. Each person -- Father, Son and Holy Spirit is separate, but together they make up one God. Each has the same essence of deity and is fully and completely God.

            Verses about the Trinity

Matt. 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,"

2 Cor. 13:14, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all."

John 12:45, "He who beholds Me beholds the One who sent Me."

Rom. 8:9, “If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him

God the Father saw so much evil in the world and saw that everyone had sinned. His loving solution was to send Jesus who He called His Son, to earth in the form of a man. He caused Jesus to experience all the evil and temptations of the world so that Jesus would know firsthand what humans face. Jesus’ coming to earth was referred to in many parts of the Old Testament. The story of His life on earth was told in the New Testament by a number of people who walked with Him. Thus to readers of the New Testament, Jesus became real. Although he was as human as we are, He was and is also God.

His main message was Love. Love your God with all your heart, mind, strength and soul; and love your neighbor as you love yourself. But most important, He also made it clear that He was the only way to Heaven. Even if we know God the Father, if we don’t accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the gates to Heaven will not open. After Christ was crucified and ascended back into Heaven where He is today, He also lives with us. We can call on Him at any time. When we pray for help with our problems, He told us to pray to His Father, but to end the prayer with “In Jesus’ Name, amen.” Then He will petition His Father for what we asked for. These are serious reasons to know Christ and to keep Him in our lives. Christ will come soon for His faithful.

When Jesus met with His disciples for the last time before being crucified, He told them that He would be leaving them but that He would ask His Father to send a counselor. This is the Holy Spirit who is just as powerful as God the Father but resides within each of us. We have only to ask and the Holy Spirit will give us help. I ask Him for help all the time including help with this article. He helps with all requests as long as they are in our best interests and conform to godly principles.
